Litha 2022: Reigniting the fire within yourself

If you are currently in the Northern Hemisphere, you can surely feel that Summer is very quickly approaching. With it comes the energy of fun, joy, relaxation, and celebration, which reaches it’s peak at the Summer Solstice, also known as Midsummer or Litha. It is a time when we fully embrace the beauty of the turning of the seasons and draw from the warmth of the longer summer days.

What are the best intentions to focus on during Litha?

Litha is a time highly associated with solar energy, fertility, and abundance. We celebrate everything being illuminated, warmed, and at it’s most fertile, so rituals and spellwork centering on manifesting any of these energies into your life will be particularly potent. It is also happens to be a particularly wonderful time of the year for celebrations of love such as marriages, handfastings, or commitment ceremonies.

In keeping with the themes of illumination and warmth, fire is also a common and traditional association with Litha. Gatherings during this time of the year often take place outdoors around bonfires. Fire is a very important and treasured piece of many people’s practice year-round as well. We use it to not only warm us as we gather, but also to help cleanse and protect our space, help quicken our spellwork, and bestow enlightenment when we gaze into the flames.

Reigniting your inner flame

While we take this time to celebrate the longest day of the year before we begin our descent back to shorter days, we can also take the opportunity to reflect on the balance of light and dark within our own lives. I believe I can safely say that we all have all had to confront far more darkness over the course of the past few years. Many of us have been in living in a perpetual “triage” mode to try and make sense of all of the chaos around us and it has been downright exhausting. For Litha this year, the main theme that I chose to focus on through our spellwork is to gain back some of that light in our lives and stoke our inner flame.

For me, the strength of our inner fire is directly linked to what we find passion and joy in. Whether your passion is one of creative pursuits, sharing time with loved ones, or achieving personal goals, these are the things that drive us forward and truly make us who we are. Unfortunately, in our busy lives these are also the things that easily get pushed aside until we have a free moment to enjoy them, which is often few and far between. More now than ever, we all need to find ways to refocus on making that time to honor ourselves, even if it is for just a few minutes each day.

Setting Intentions to Stick to

Budgeting time to nurture the things that bring us joy isn’t always easy , but our goal over the course of the next week is to help guide you towards putting together a beautiful and accessible Litha feast designed to draw upon the bright energies of the season, restore balance, and help re-spark your inner flame. To prepare for this, begin to think about what some of your own personal passions are. Are you making enough space for them? What tools do you have available to you to help integrate them into your life more? We would love to hear in the comments what steps you are taking to reignite your inner fire and what intentions you are looking to set during this Litha.
